This collection consists of disparate manuscripts from 19th century New Mexico, a collection of 96 pamphlets on the 1888-1897 silver question, and personal papers of Le Baron Bradford Prince. Box 1 contains 67 pamphlets on the 1888-1897 silver question. Box 1 also contains English and Spanish language documents, including letters, pertaining to nineteenth century New Mexico, which were donated by Mr. W.B. Prince, son of L. Bradford Prince, and Dr. Frank Reeve. One letter to Manuel Alvarez from William Bent concerns a priest's complaints about stolen sheep. Among the Spanish language documents is an official statement signed by the Mexican Governor, Mariano Martinez, regarding the execution of the Ute chief, Panasiyave (also spelled Panesiyah.) Two documents, signed by Donaciano Vigil, Secretary of the Territory, are a proclamation referring the Taos insurrection in which Governor Charles Bent was assassinated, 1847, and a circular concerning the assassination of Governor Bent during the Taos insurrection. There is also a treaty dated 1827 between Mexico and the Comanche. Box 2 contains personal papers of Prince, and more silver question pamphlets, which were purchased and added to the collection. Personal papers include family, business, and political correspondence, invitations to the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition and to a dinner/dance given by the Society of Mayflower Descendants, as well as a circular for the lecture series, "Romance of the South West" given by Prince. The oversized folder contains a publicity poster for L. Bradford Prince's book, History of New Mexico, dated 1883.
